I have very few words to explain what is going on here - this is an Umzug (parade) with all of the Narren groups within Konstanz, as well as some local associations and businesses. Click on the Photos to enlarge :) These are some of my favourites - Embrace the Fasching Fashion!
Group Number 1 - Narren
Little flag spinning Narren :)
The black cross on white with a red band at the top is the shield of Konstanz.
Bells are important to a Narr - look at the size of these ones!
This Narr seems more sinister than a lot of the others.
Wooden Narr - they seem to embrace both the Narr scales and the wooden masks of the witches.
I'm not sure what it is, but these terrified me when coming down the street towards you...
See those balloon things? Those are animal stomachs blown up and put on a stick...to hit people with.
Your traditional Konstanz Narr
Group Number 2 - Witches
Male or Female underneath - can you tell?
These witches like to steal young teenage girls from the crowd...
Evidently this witch has been very naughty...
Spikey Faced Witches
Group Number 3 - Animals and MonstersThese are Giraffes (clearly...)
Badisch Foxes (you can tell from the stripy socks in the Baden colours)
One can never have too much fur on a costume, clearly.
Birds!
Because who doesn't want a blue wolf-dog-creature as a pet?
This group were genuinely terrifying - especially when putting their masks right in your face.
This is an owl (covering the small children in front of me in confetti).
Wolf-Narr combo!
The Swiss Delegation: A Marching Band of Cows
Cute Fuzzy Goat (no idea what the person behind looks like though...)
These Fuzzy Monsters are HUGE!
This one set his friend alight with his flame...
Rabbit-Narr thing...I've given up trying to understand any logic behind the costumes
If in doubt, be a...fish?
Group 4 - People
No such thing as a bad hair-day here...
A Marching Band of Vampires.
Now I have cooked pizza on a BBQ, but never fish fingers...
Ummm...nope, no words from me! Just embrace the Karneval spirit...
Perhaps inspired by the Venetian Carnival?
French Jacobians complete with 'working' guillotine.
Fishermen
The pirate ship - complete with motley crew and retractable masts!
Group 5 - Other
Ok, so not the best photo, but I didn't think I could leave these lampshades out!
Under the Sea...
Yum, yum, yum.
Imperia
And last, but by no means least, this little one kept trying to run and join the parade :)
